Isle au Haut Lullaby
This song has been known in my family as my mother's song for as long as I can remember. As shy as she was, she sang it with my father at a show in the Backgate Stage at Artichoke Music in 2003. It's lovely to harmonize to and easy to play and sing this beauty of a song written in 1965 by Gordon Bok.
This is a good song for beginning players, singers and harmonizers - and for rocking babies to sleep. It's simple melody is repeated in the verse and chorus. This is one to sing for as long as it pleases you to sing it. This is often the first song we use with groups - easy to learn and room for harmony. We first sing the chorus twice, and then after every verse with an a capella end. The salty images delight and calm the senses throughout the gentle 4/4 time and a sweet lull gentles the storm & with the power of a lullaby croons babes, young and old, to sleep.
